Annual Chincoteague Island Blueberry Festival
Beats the Heat

The 23rd Annual Chincoteague Island Blueberry Festival drew record crowds despite searing heat that topped the 100 degree mark. Enthusiastic lover’s of blueberries. delicious food, Fine Arts and Crafts, Live music, pony rides and more converged on the Chincoteague Center  July 23rd, 24th and 25th for what has become the warm-up act for Chincoteague’s pride and joy, the Annual Pony Round-up and Pony swim.

Comforted by the well air-conditioned Chincoteague Community, visitors to the Blueberry Festival were able to enjoy the Exhibitors inside the Center and cool-down between excursions to the outside Exhibitors on the green space surrounding the Chincoteague Center.

Fresh blueberries, homemade blueberry ice cream from the Island Creamery, Old-Fashioned blueberry shortcake, blueberry funnel cake, the Ultimate Blueberry Pie from Sugarbaker’s, plus blueberry jams, jellies, salad dressings, toppings and syrups made this years Blueberry Festival a dream-come-true for every blueberry aficionado.

The Chincoteague Blueberry Festival is the largest Fine Arts and Crafts event on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and this years festival attracted nearly 100 artists, crafters and specialty exhibitors from 10 states.

The music never stopped at the Blueberry Festival with featured performers like Mountain Faith, a Gospel inspired, bluegrass  group from Ashville North Carolina, Eastern Shore Favorite Son, Johnny Mo-the Musical Chef, Ron Cole and Wayne Young, The Celtic Islanders, one-man band the Piped Piper and surprise musical guests, the exuberant traveling minstrels Moonstruck Music. The crowd was brought to their feet on several occasions when various members of the various groups joined together for impromptu “jam sessions.”

Breakfast featured Blueberry Pancakes and even lunch had a blueberry chicken salad sandwich as a part of the extensive menu prepared by Chef Annie and crew from the Pepper Jack Grille.

The Chincoteague Blueberry Festival is always held the Friday, Saturday and Sunday prior to the Chincoteague Pony Swim which is held the following Wednesday. Chincoteague Blueberry Festival Summer Fun
July 23, 24 & 25

The 23rd Annual Chincoteague Blueberry Festival will be held at the beautiful Chincoteague Community Center at 6155 Community Drive on Chincoteague Island, Virginia on July 23, 24 and 25, 2010.  The Blueberry Festival will be held from 9:00 to 4:30pm rain or shine. The Blueberry Festival remains the largest Fine Arts and Crafts event on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with exhibitors from 10 states including many excellent local artists. This large Fine Arts and Crafts exhibit brings a unique Christmas in July shopping atmosphere to Chincoteague.  The Arts and Crafts exhibits are located both inside the Chincoteague Center building and outside on the green space and parking lot.

The fresh gourmet blueberries will once again be provided by Dick’s Kitchen.  These succulent delicacies are unlike any blueberries that can be found in the grocery store or produce stands and are a huge favorite of Festival visitor’s and sell out every year.

The Blueberry Festivals’ net profits from the fresh blueberry sales will be donated to the Chincoteague Police Departments’ “Ride for Kids” Program to benefit local children. Buying fresh blueberries at the festival provides not only a tasty and nutritious treat for the family, but helps the kid’s in need as well! Blueberries freeze extremely well and many of the festivals blueberry devotees stock up for the entire year.

For a FREE pint of fresh blueberries, be one of the first 50 paid adults each day of the festival!

The Ultimate Blueberry Pies will once again be made and sold by Sugarbakers Bakery.  These delicious offerings also sold out last year so come early to get yours!

The blueberry confections continue with Blueberry Ice Cream from the Island Creamery, old-fashioned blueberry shortcake from Diana James, blueberry funnel cakes from Cross Concessions, blueberry pancakes from Pepper Jack Grille, and much more!
